Titanic in Belfast app

Building upon the success of their Northern Ireland audio tour app, My Tour Talk won funding to develop a Titanic in Belfast app to coincide with the ship’s centenary celebrations. The aims of the app were twofold: to offer an outstanding experience for visitors to Belfast and to boost tourism in the city by encouraging these visitors to stay longer and spend more.

We placed a strong focus on design. Many Titanic related products and tours have an old-fashioned “heritage” feel, but we wanted a design that reflected not only Belfast’s history but also its present. This seemed fitting for an app that took full advantage of the latest technologies available for mobile devices.

Integrating geo-located maps, audio commentary and an interactive directory, the app not only guides visitors on a comprehensive tour of the Titanic Quarter, but also helps them to find their nearest restaurants, bars, hotels and attractions quickly and easily.

The app was custom developed for both Android and Apple, with a different approach taken for each to deliver the best possible user experience. Despite the limited time period between the granting of funding and the centenary celebrations, GCD delivered the app within the deadline. The launch coincided with the opening of the Titanic building, therefore taking full advantage of the publicity generated by the event.
